Do you know a young person who loves llamas and dreams of being a llama farmer one day? Here is your chance to bring their dream to life! We are one of the very few llama farms in this country to offer a fully hands-on, immersive experience, especially tailored for children.
The day lasts from 10am - 2pm and includes a tasty picnic lunch and refreshments throughout the day for the junior llama farmer. The emphasis, as with all our experiences is on both people and llamas having FUN!
This experience is aimed at children between the ages of 6-16 and will give them a hands-on, behind the scenes view of exactly what's involved with taking care of llamas. Each junior keeper will be presented with a trainee llama farmer name badge on arrival. They will explore all our paddocks, meeting all our llamas, learning how to assess their health, their paddocks, checking for problems with fencing, poo picking, food preparation, feeding, grooming, training and setting up enrichment activities. There will be an opportunity to take a couple for a short walk and they can also try their hand at a spot of llama agility! We will have a break for a nutritious and tasty picnic lunch, which can be eaten in the fields or in one of our barns. To add to the excitement, they will be given the opportunity at the end of the session to upgrade their trainee llama farmer badge to a fully fledged llama farmer badge, providing that they can answer correctly a few simple questions about llamas! All junior llama farmers will leave with a special certificate.
This amazing experience includes:
The trainee llama farmer can decide whether or not a responsible adult accompanies them on all aspects of the experience. We do have a comfy barn, with free wi-fi that many adults get banished to once the youngster begins to feel at home, or adults can watch from a distance, become the official photographer - or get hands on too! However, it is the young person's special day so all attention will be focussed on them. A packed lunch for the adult can be provided too for a nominal fee (please request this at the time of booking). We also have tea and coffee making facilities for adults.
By buying this special gift, not only will it be a magical experience for your youngster to remember but, you will also be contributing to our work here, helping to provide a secure future for the Hill House Llamas, many of whom were rescued from less than desirable circumstances.
